Lauterbourg and the surrounding area

Lauterbourg is a little harbour town located within a stone's throw of the Franco-German border, in the Bas-Rhin department at the most north-eastern corner of France.

Among the must-visit sites nearby, you are sure to enjoy exploring the small town of Wissembourg with the flowered gardens lining the banks of its canal, as well as Hunspach, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, and Hoffen, located in the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park. The Château de Fleckenstein, dating back to the 12th century, and perched on a dramatic rock face, is also well worth a visit.

Situated on the Franco-German border, the history of Lauterbourg comprises many twists and turns, and several wars. During World War II, the lower part of the town was completely destroyed. Lauterboug has since been rebuilt and various different industries gradually became established at the harbour on the Rhine. Large-scale work was carried out to offer inhabitants a pleasant living environment.

Before becoming a renowned restaurant, the estate was home to "Kuntz" chair makers for almost 30 years, and a flour mill, as well as a rapeseed oil mill from 1669 to 1922.
In 1982, Séverine's parents bought the establishment in a state of ruin. They renovated it over three years to transform it into a restaurant with character.
